Twelve years ago I was a healthy, active 18 year old. I have always struggled to be a healthy weight but started to let myself go in college. I gained my "freshman fifteen", then got married and gained the other 20lb "who cares anymore" weight. By the time I got pregnant with my first child I was already 35 lbs overweight. After I had my baby I was 50 lbs overweight and extremely out of shape. Like most new moms I was too exhausted from taking care of a baby to take anytime to workout or eat healthy.
Anyone who has ever been out of shape and has done something about it has had a wake-up call, a smack to the face to make you realize how far you have let yourself go. My wake-up call came after my daughter's first birthday. My husband and I took our daughter hiking near Brighton Ski Resort. We had only made it about 100 yards up the mountain before I had to sit down from exhaustion. I couldn't believe at age 24 I was unable to take a one mile hike with my family. We finished the hike with me crying all the way up the mountain both in pain and from humiliation. From that day on I started dieting and joined a gym. It took me over a year to loose the weight but I have kept it off and even lost it again after the birth of my son! If you told me 6 years ago that I would be teaching group fitness classes- especially cycling I would have laughed in your face.
This summer my family took a 6 mile hike (3 miles up hill) and with my 3 year old son on my back I was able to hike all the way up and practically ran down the mountain! I now ride 100 mile bike rides all summer and recently completed my first triathlon. I was not an athlete growing up nor do I have a lot of natural athletic ability. Everything I have accomplished I have earned through hard work and dedication. You do not have to be Lance Armstrong, Mia Hamm, or Michael Phelps to walk through the doors of NO EXCUSE FITNESS. This is a gym for EVERYONE! You have to start somewhere and there is a 95% chance (or higher) that the person working out next to you is in the same boat. Don't wait for your wake-up call or until it is "convenient" to work out because it never will be. You have to start now and get up each day committed to changing your life. I can't wait to meet you and help you find that something that makes you jump out of bed each morning ready to take on a new challenge!
